Developmental Paths

Presidential Management Fellows (PMF)

The PMF program is the Federal Government's flagship leadership development program for advanced degree holders across all academic disciplines. It was established 45 years ago by Executive Order and has gone through changes over the years, but the essential mission remains the same: to recruit and develop a cadre of future government leaders drawn from all segments of society. Eligible individuals apply to be selected as Finalists. Finalists then have 12 months to secure an appointment as a Fellow, which is a two-year, full-time, paid fellowship at a Federal agency. The PMF Program creates a lasting bond among Fellows and Alumni. It also instills a spirit of public service, which, for Fellows who complete the program successfully, can ultimately encourage and lead to a career in government.

Army Fellows

Army Civilian Career Management Activity (ACCMA) manages the Enterprise Civilian Talent Acquisition Programs (ECTAP) that include Student Interns and the Army Fellows program (formerly Apprentices). The Army Fellows program is designed to attract, recruit, and hire top civilian talent who are recent college graduates. The 2-year fellowship is developmental in nature and blends progressive and sequential work assignments, formal training, and self-development as individuals progress from entry-level positions to more advanced key positions within the workforce. Upon successful completion of the program, fellows are permanently placed in a full-time and authorized position.

Student Intern Program

The Student Intern Program (SIP) offers post-secondary students 12 weeks of full-time employment, up to 480 hours, during the summer months. Approximate employment dates are end of May through mid-August. Employment is intended to continue each subsequent year during the summer months while the student is enrolled in a degree program. The job title for these positions will include the term “Student Trainee.” Based upon demonstrated performance, students are able to matriculate from Student Interns to Army Fellows for continued development and future full-time employment with the Army.
